Lila Webb is the founder of Ruby Lu, a textile business that offers handmade products with personality and functionality. All items are designed and created at Lila’s kitchen table, infusing everything with the love and attention it deserves.
In college, Lila quickly realized that she preferred to stay home on the weekends and work on various sewing projects rather than partake in the usual undergrad activities. Thus, she quickly grew to love her Bernina sewing machine. Her dorm room was filled with fabric, and any passerby could hear the hum of her sewing machine until the wee hours of the morning.

After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, Lila moved to Aspen, Colorado and dabbled in ski bumming. After three seasons of incredible powder days, once again Lila was on the move. In between ski seasons she had completed a yoga teacher certification, two different massage therapy programs equaling in over 950 hours of schooling, and worked as a massage therapist and horse trainer. Lila was still searching the horizon for something to really dazzle and compel her to create a career in a field where she could use her artistic and creative strengths to the utmost degree.

In June of 2007, Lila became a Mom. She longed to have the freedom to stay at home with her son, but at the same time was not entirely willing to put her career path and goals on the wayside. The uncertainty of her own direction in life (other than being a Mom), was nagging at her.

Ruby Lu came about when Lila’s son, Rowan, was six months old. It was a cold, dark January and Lila decided to make a fleece skirt for herself, with the conditions that it had to be warm, comfortable and colorful. This skirt was designed to be the perfect combatant to face a blustery New England winter; and, it was. Soon, Lila was taking orders for custom clothing. What started as a handful of fleece skirts quickly became a successful, home-based business.

Each season that passed inspired new designs and product lines. It dawned on Lila that this might be just what she was looking for: she could stay at home with her son, play with fabric, and provide people with a little jewel of fresh, cheerful, and wholesome handmade products.

The rest is history.
